An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Friday, Aug. 23, 2019-Southwest Michigan-Another Brilliant Sunny Day

Currently 60 with an average wind from the NE of 5 mph. Feels like 61 degrees. Dew Point 51, Humidity 69%, Barometer 30.19 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:56 am, Sunset 8:30 pm. Nothing but sunshine today. High 73. NNE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Clear overnight skies. ENE winds 5 -10mph.

Temperature in the mid 50s this morning and the bedroom window wide open made it almost too chilly to think about hauling out of bed. Starting to feel practically fall-like already and I’m not ready for that. Of course, I’m not ready for it in September either, but especially not in August. It’s going to be a pretty day with a comfortable temperature. And the weekend sounds like about the same with the beginning of next week looking to be bringing in some rain. A goodly pattern. Will make folks mighty happy to have another couple of days like this to enjoy outdoor activities.

Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019-South West Michigan-Wonderful Weather Continues

Currently 64 with an average wind from the NE of 7 mph. Feels like 67 degrees. Dew Point 48, Humidity 56%, Barometer 30.03 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:55 am, Sunset 8:33 pm. Sun and clouds mix for the day. High near 75. N wind 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy, low 51. NNE winds 5 -10 mph.

Still watching fireflies in the evening, but also seeing some dry leaves letting go of their fastenings and starting to litter the driveway. Not a whole lot of them, mind you, but enough to remind us that the summer is beginning to wrap up. Too soon, of course, but nothing we can do about it. Night temperatures are starting to be a tad cooler, too, but that makes for some wonderful sleeping weather with windows wide open to the coolness.

Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019-South West Michigan- Stray Clouds, Perhaps A Stray Shower

Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019-South West Michigan- Stray Clouds, Perhaps A Stray Shower

Currently 70 with a SW wind of 6 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 69, Humidity 95%, Barometer 29.90 & falling, Sunrise 6:53 am, Sunset 8:35 pm. Partly cloudy with a stray shower or thunderstorm possible. High 83. W winds 10 -20mph.

Partly cloudy with a low near 55. N winds 10 -1 5 mph.

Nothing special going on with the weather. This is a good thing. Nothing special is just the way we like it. No problems due to crop up, just the same old same old. Frankly we much prefer our weather being handed out in big bland chunks. Easy to keep up with outdoor summer plans if there isn’t anything wicked in the weather arena set to swoop in and spoil things. So…all is well in my little corner of the world.

Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019-South West Michigan-Plenty Of Clouds Today

Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019-South West Michigan-Plenty Of Clouds Today

Currently 71 with an average wind from the E of 5 mph. Feels like 71 degrees. Dew Point 63, Humidity 76%, Barometer 30.03, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:53 am, Sunset 8:36 pm. Plenty of clouds today with the possibility of a stray shower or thunderstorm. High 87. SSW winds 10 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy with a 30% chance of showers or thunderstorms. Low 68. WSW winds 5 -10 mph.

Not a bad morning, mild air, bit of a breeze, lots of clouds cluttering up the sky. Feeling blessed not to be having the heat attacking so many in the south right now. In fact, my A/C hasn’t been on much at all, especially lately. A fan now and then seems to have been sufficient. And mighty happy about that. Will be even happier when the electric bill comes around minus the need for that expensive A/C.

Monday, Aug. 19, 2019-South West Michigan-Pleasant Week Ahead

Monday, Aug. 19, 2019-South West Michigan-Pleasant Week Ahead

Currently 69 with an average wind from the ENE of 3 mph. Feels like 69. Dew Point 64, Humidity 84%, Barometer 29.99 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:51 am, Sunset 8:38 pm. Sunny to partly cloudy. High 84. W winds 5 -10 mph.

Clear to partly cloudy. Low 59. N winds 5 – 10mph.

Unless something changes – and of course, it almost always does – the week ahead looks to be dry and pleasant. A dandy August week of weather in what has turned out to be a really comfortable Summer month. It’s difficult to get complacent about our Michigan weather. It is, probably because we’re pretty much surrounded by the Great Lakes, changeable and not always agreeable. Like the old poem…’When she was good, she was very, very good. And when she was bad she was horrid.’  Pretty much sums up our Michigan weather :>)

Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019-South West Michigan-Severe Thunderstorm Watch In Effect

Currently 75 with an average wind from the S of 11mph. Feels like 75 degrees. Dew Point 69, Humidity 82%, Barometer 29.84 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:50 am, Sunset 8:40 pm. Mainly cloudy with an 80% chance of thunderstorms. Some storms may be severe. High 82. SSW winds 10 -20 mph.

60% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low around 65. WSW winds 10 -15 mph.

We do have a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until around 2:00pm. Nothing so far, just a whole lot of clouds, buy you never know. It pays to keep an eye on the sky. We could use some rain, but definitely do not need anything severe. So we’ll see how this goes today.

Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019-South West Michigan-Mix Of Sun & Clouds Today, Rain Tonight

Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019-South West Michigan-Mix Of Sun & Clouds Today, Rain Tonight

Currently 76 with an average wind from the W of 10 mph. Feels like 76 degrees. Dew Point 62, Humidity 61%, Barometer 29.91 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:49 am, Sunset 8:41 pm. Sun and clouds mix today. High 85. W winds 10 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy in the evening- 50% chance of scattered thunderstorms developing after midnight.  L0w near 65. Light and variable winds.

Today is beautiful. Plenty of sunshine. Clouds not the sort to present any threat of rain or ruination of outdoor plans. Tonight though sounds like things will change and right now there’s a very good chance of our Sunday being a stormy one. We’ll see. Things change rather rapidly weatherwise.

Friday, Aug. 16, 2019-South West Michigan-Cool Nights Already

Friday, Aug. 16, 2019-South West Michigan-Cool Nights Already

Currently 62 with an average wind from the ESE of 2 mph. Feels like 62 degrees. Dew Point 59, Humidity 88%, Barometer 29.97, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 6:48 am, Sunset 8:43 pm. Partly cloudy with a possibility of a stray shower or thunderstorm. High 80. S 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm tonight. Low 65. SSW winds 5  10 mph.

There is a dense fog advisory in effect this morning. None of it too visible from here, but it’s evidently out there somewhere. I’ll say that last night was chilly enough, with the window wide open as usual, to feel downright cozy having the light comforter back on the bed. Shades of Autumn showing up already. That and a few dead leaves already here and there. Early departures that nobody wants to see so soon.

Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019-South West Michigan-Beneficial Overnight Rain-Finally

Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019-South West Michigan-Beneficial Overnight Rain-Finally

Currently 58 with an average wind from the NE of 8 mph. Feels like. 56 degrees. Dew Point 56, Humidity 95%, Barometer 30.00 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:47 am, Sunset 8:44 pm. Mostly cloudy with the possibility of a stray shower or thunderstorm. High 77. NE winds 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy. Low 58. E winds 5 – 10 mph.

What a pleasant surprise to hear the sound of rain last night off and on from about 11:30 on. Wasn’t forecast or expected but most definitely welcomed. Things are greener and cleaner this morning. As of now, there’s a chance for more rain today, maybe over the weekend, but things change so often that who knows? If we get it, good, if we don’t, oh well. At any rate, last night was delightful.

Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds But No Rain So Far

Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds But No Rain So Far

Currently 66 with an average wind from the ENE of 8 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 54, Humidity 65%, Barometer 29.95 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:46 am, Sunset 8:46 pm. Plenty of clouds with a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm popping up. High 82. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy becoming partly cloudy overnight. Low 60. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Again, we have the clouds, but we haven’t the rain to go with them. Still entertaining myself in the evening by watching the Fireflies create polka dots of  light in the woods behind my tiny backyard. One of my favorite summer things to do. Seems like there’s been a lot of them this summer. The Hummingbirds in the daylight hours and the Fireflies after dark – doesn’t take too much to entertain me. Just being in the season of Summer is entertainment enough for me come right down to it.
