An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019-South West Michigan-Gray Day After A Stormy Night

Currently 59 with an average wind from the E of 13 mph. Feels like 57 degrees. Dew Point 57, Humidity 94%, Barometer 30.18, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:18 am, Sunset 7:57 pm. Overcast with a stray shower or thunderstorm possible. High 69. E winds 10 -20 mph.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of overnight showers. Heavy rainfall possible. Low 62. ESE winds 10 -20 mph.

Last night brought us severe thunderstorms, tornado watches and a few tornado warnings. Nothing severe happened in my little back yard, but the area affected was wide so I wouldn’t be surprised if a few places didn’t end up with something harsh. Lots of lightening, some wind…that was the extend of my share of the storm system. Nothing expected today but clouds and perhaps a bit of rain.

It’s a sad day for America. Our innocence and more than 3,000 of our citizens, gone in a heartbeat. Not only that but people are still dying, on a daily basis, from lung diseases, cancers due to what they inhaled on that horrible day. First responders who rushed to aid their fellow Americans. So the death toll continues, like ripples from a dreadful pool of deceit and terrorism.

Doesn’t matter in the least what our weather is today. Or yours, either. None of those innocent people are around to experience any of it. They lost the right to even see noon on that painful day. Families and friends of all of them had a good portion of their hearts destroyed that day and none have been able, or will ever be able, to rebuild what was damaged. Children have grown up, missing the love of a parent. Mothers and fathers had their hearts broken beyond repair over the lose of sons and daughters. Nothing but pain emerged from that day. At least for Americans.

Never, ever forget, Americans. Never.

Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019-South West Michigan-A Rainy Morning For Us

Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019-South West Michigan-A Rainy Morning For Us

Currently 64 with an average wind from the SSW of 6 mph. Feels like 64. Dew Point 63, Humidity 97%, Barometer 30.09 & rising, Visibility 2.5 mi., Sunrise 7:16 am, Sunset 8:01 pm. 100% chance of morning rain. Cloudy afternoon. High 84. SW winds 10 -20 mph.

40% chance of scattered thunderstorms early, becoming just cloudy after midnight. Low 67. WSW winds 10 -15 mph.

We do have rain this morning. Woke to a lovely, loud rumble of thunder. And surprise, the temperature is supposed to head into the 80s again today with some hefty humidity. Sounds good to me.

Monday, Sept. 9, 2019-South West Michigan-Getting Chilly Too Soon

Monday, Sept. 9, 2019-South West Michigan-Getting Chilly Too Soon

Currently 52 with an average wind from the E of 8 mph. Feels like 49 degrees. Dew Point 50, Humidity 92%, Barometer 30.26 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:14 am, Sunset 8:03 pm. Plenty of clouds today. Chance of a stray rain shower. High around 76. ESE winds 5 -10 mph.

Mostly cloudy, low 63. SE winds 10 -15 mph.

I’ll tell you the truth, the thought of turning on the heat has crossed my mind a few times lately. Already. I didn’t. Too soon. But when the temperature in my apartment falls into the lower 60s, that’s too darn cold for me. So far, sweaters to the rescue. But it’s too soon to have to close the windows overnight and be uncomfortably chilly in my little nest. If the forecast comes around as predicted, we might see rain the next 4 days in a row. Says a day or two might get up to 80 degrees…I’m not holding my breath on that one. We’ll see. If it’s warm, rain is fine. A cold rain, however, isn’t welcome.

Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019-South West Michigan-Interestingly Clouded Sky

Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019-South West Michigan-Interestingly Clouded Sky

Currently 57 with an average wind from the ENE of 5 mph. Feels like 56 degrees. Dew Point 51, Humidity 80%, Barometer 30.14 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:13 am, Sunset 8:04 pm. Mix of sun and clouds (it says), high 68. E winds 5 -10 mph.

A few overnight clouds. Low 50. E winds 5 -10 mph.

Well, if there’s supposed to be a bit of sun mixed in with our clouds today, it has some going to do. Those clouds are so tightly packed a whisper couldn’t work it’s way through them at this point. Tomorrow, at this time, seems to be promising us lots of sunshine, but personally, I think today is a lost clause. Things to change, and I reckon there’s time and hope for some afternoon breaks in the overhead cloud cover to develop. Would be nice. I’m not holding my breath.

Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019

Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019

Currently 59 with an average wind from the W of 7 mph. Feels like 58 degrees. Dew Point 55, Humidity 88%, Barometer 30.01 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:12 am, Sunset 8:06 pm.  Plenty of clouds, high 72. W winds 10 -20 mph.

Cloudy early with some clearing later. Low 49. NNW 10-15 mph.

Some blue, mostly clouds. Not a bad day, but getting cooler – so soon. Way too soon. Looks to be a chance of rain for most of the coming week which sounds rather dreary.  We’ll see. Things change quickly with our weather, so we may, or may not, need our umbrellas at the ready every day. All we can count on for sure is the coolness increasing. Our nights are already getting chilly enough to need a comforter back on the bed. Alas…Autumn is on the way.

Friday, Sept. 6, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds, Maybe Some Rain

Friday, Sept. 6, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds, Maybe Some Rain

Currently 51 with an average wind from the SSE of 4 mph. Feels like 59 degrees. Dew Point 56, Humidity 88%, Barometer 29.89 & falling, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:11 am, Sunset 8:08 pm. Cloudy with a slight chance of rain showers. High 69. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy, low 54. NNW winds 5 – 10 mph.

A rather blah day out there so far, a bit of overnight rain and the possibility of more today. At least not getting hammered like the East Coast is from Hurricane Dorian-a hurricane that simply refuses to go away. It just keeps on making landfall like playing a giant, cruel game of hopscotch as it goes roaring along. So much destruction left in its wake. I know everyone involved will be relieved to see the backside of that particular, persistent storm. Hopefully nothing else like that will come along in what’s left of this hurricane season.

Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019-South West Michigan-A Day Full Of Sunshine

Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019-South West Michigan-A Day Full Of Sunshine

Currently 58 with an average wind from the E of 2 mph. Feels like 58 degrees. Dew Point 50, Humidity 73%, Barometer 30.16, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:10 am, Sunset 8:10 pm. Plenty of sunshine today with a high of 74. Light and variable winds.

Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy tonight with a chance of a stray rain shower popping up. Low 57. Light and variable winds.

What a glorious day out there. Bright and cheery. A day to make you feel as if you could do just about any and everything. I may not get that energetic, but I most certainly will get out and do some cleaning and clearing in preparation for the days coming up that won’t be quite so agreeable.

Watching Hurricane Dorian refuse to give up and go away. Now it’s the Carolinas being forced to do battle. Hoping for the best for them. Still reeling over the absolute destruction of the Bahamas. This has been – and evidently continues to be – a very dangerous storm.

Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019-South West Michigan-Goodly Mix Of Sun And Clouds

Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019-South West Michigan-Goodly Mix Of Sun And Clouds

Currently 60 with an average wind from the NNW of 10 mph. Feels like 59 degrees. Dew Point 51, Humidity 72%, Barometer 30.22 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:09 am, Sunset 8:11 pm. A mix of sun and clouds today. High 69. NW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 48. N winds 5 -10 mph.

For the first time we’re dealing with a daily high only in the 60s and our night time temps officially in the 40s. Our weather is on the down slide heading toward that season of dread for most of us. Sure do wish it was Spring rather than Fall moving in.

Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019-South West Michigan-Could Get Some Heavy Rain Today

Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019-South West Michigan-Could Get Some Heavy Rain Today

Currently 67 with an average wind from the SSW of 14 mph. Feels like 67 degrees. Dew Point 64, Humidity 88%, Barometer 29.89 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:08 am, Sunset 8:13 pm. Cloudy becoming windy with an 80% chance of thunderstorms likely. A few may be severe. High 76. SW winds 20 -30 mph.

A few overnight clouds with the possibility of a stray severe thunderstorm. Low 56. WNW winds 10 -20 mph.

Right now, very calm out there. A light rain has been falling off and on…right at the moment off. But it looks like we might be in for a bit of a blow later on. At least we all got through the holiday weekend without anything too drastic showing up to ruin outdoor plans. Time now to look forward to Fall stuff and getting ready for Winter.
