An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019-South West Michigan-Flood Advisory Continues

Currently 56 with an average wind from the NE of 13 mph. Feels like 53 degrees. Dew Point 55, Humidity 95%, Barometer 29.91 & rising, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 7:40 am, Sunset 7:22 pm. Cloudy with an 80% chance of rain. High 60. ENE winds 10 – 20 mph.

60% chance of overnight rain. Low 51. ENE winds 10 -20 mph.

Got another 2 1/2″ of rain overnight and this most certainly didn’t help the flooding issues. Advisories continue – as well as does the rain. Not supposed to get anything heavy today or tonight or tomorrow, but we are expecting rain none-the-less. Can’t possibly help the situation. The best we can say is that at least it isn’t snow.

Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019-South West Michigan-Flood Watch In Effect

Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019-South West Michigan-Flood Watch In Effect

Currently 71 with an average wind from the SW of 8 mph. Feels like 71 degrees. Dew Point 66, Humidity 86%, Barometer 29.92 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:39am, Sunset 7:23pm. 40% chance of morning thunderstorms with some afternoon clouds. High near 80. WSW winds 10 -20 mph.

100% chance of overnight rain and thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall expected. Low 58. NW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Since the ground is pretty much saturated by so much recent rain, the predicted rainfall of 1-2″ with some areas maybe getting 3″,  things aren’t going to improve.  Hence the flood watch in effect through tomorrow evening.  Not sure but I’m thinking that might be increased to include another day as more rain could be on the way for Thursday, too. Sort of a soggy beginning to the month of October. Best thing to think is at least it’s not snow like Montana is dealing with. I’ll take the rain any time.

Monday, Sept 30, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds Should Break A Bit Later

Monday, Sept 30, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds Should Break A Bit Later

Currently 58 with an average wind from the ESE wind of 9 mph. Feels like 57 degrees. Dew Point 57, Humidity 97%, Barometer 30.12 & falling, Visibility 0.8 mi., Sunrise 7:38 am, Sunset 7:25 pm. Cloudy with a stray shower or thunderstorm possible followed by partial cloudy skies. High 81. S winds 10-15 mph.

A few passing clouds. Low near 70. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Had about 3″ of rain over the past few days. It’s time for the sun to peek through and the precipitation to cease. Well, that’s my wish, anyway. In truth, there’s a good chance of rain over the next three days. It’s fall. We get a lot of rain. And the we get a lot of snow. Lucky us.

Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019-South West Michigan-Thankfully The Snow Is In Montana

Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019-South West Michigan-Thankfully The Snow Is In Montana

Currently 52 with an average wind from the NE of 8 mph. Feels like 50 degrees. Dew Point 49, Humidity 90%, Barometer 30.31 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:37 am, Sunset 7:27 pm.

90% chance of rain today. High 57. E winds 10 -20 mph.

60% chance of overnight rain. Low 57. E winds 10 – 15 mph.

Okay, so we have yet another rainy Sunday. At least we’re not looking at a foot of snow like they are out in Montana. I simply can’t bear the thought of snow already. Makes me cringe. Maybe they’re used to such early onslaught of ugliness in that rugged state, but I’m not ready for a foot of snow here even in February.  Sad for Montana. In comparison, not nearly as sad about today’s rain here as I could be.

Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019-Early Rain, Clouds, Perhaps Peeks Of Sun Later

Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019-Early Rain, Clouds, Perhaps Peeks Of Sun Later

Temperature 60 with an average wind from the NNE of 8 mph. Feels like 59 degrees. Dew Point 57, Humidity 88%, Barometer 30.01 & rising, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 7:35 am, Sunset 7:29 pm. Early morning rain, becoming cloudy with a few peeks of sunshine possible late. High 67. NNE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Generally cloudy overnight. Low 50. ENE winds 5 -10 mph.

Had a bit over 2 1/2″ of rain overnight in my little backyard. Seemed like every time I woke up I heard some thunder and falling rain. This morning I fed the outdoor critters in a light mist which seems to have abated now. However, it most certainly looks like more rain is possible and from tomorrow on for days it seems we’re in store for nothing but more rain.

Still haven’t seen a Hummingbird now over the past few days. Might be missing them, but I have the feeling the little creatures are gone. Like always, I wish them God speed and a safe journey to their winter quarters.

Friday, Sept. 27, 2019-South West Michigan-Rain Coming In

Friday, Sept. 27, 2019-South West Michigan-Rain Coming In

Currently 56 with an average wind from the SSE of 9 mph. Feels like 54 degrees. Dew Point 45, Humidity 66%, Barometer 29.88 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:34 am, Sunset 7:30 pm. Cloudy with a 60% chance of scattered thunderstorms. High around 70. SSW winds 10 – 20 mph.

100% chance of overnight rain. Some locally heavy. 1-2″ expected. Low 59. WSW winds 10 -15 mph.

Not much more than a thin mist this morning but it looks and feels as if the sky’s going to open up and pour a whole lot more down on us as the day goes along. Tonight sounds like we have to expect a deluge. Somehow tomorrow has managed to squeeze in some sunshine but the 3 or 4 days following that will be bringing us more rain.

Didn’t see a Humming bird at my feeder yesterday. Maybe I just missed them – or maybe the little guys have started their long journey. I always fear for their safety and hope they make it to their intended destination. They’re such tiny creatures and have so far to go.

Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019-South West Michigan-Nothing But Sunshine Today

Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019-South West Michigan-Nothing But Sunshine Today

Currently 57 with an average wind from the WNW of 13 mph. Feels like 54 degrees. Dew Point 46, Humidity 66%, Barometer 29.86 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:33 am, Sunset 7:32 pm. Plenty of sunshine today, high 66. WNW winds 15 – 25 mph.

A few passing overnight clouds, low 50. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

We have to enjoy today as much as possible because according to the forecast this looks to be the last day for about the next entire week without the possibility of rain. Looks like a gloomy time ahead. Hopefully everyone will be able to get outside and soak up whatever sunshine they can today. I’m going to give it a good go. And find all my umbrellas for future use.

Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019-South West Michigan-Rainy Morning, Perhaps Dry Afternoon

Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019-South West Michigan-Rainy Morning, Perhaps Dry Afternoon

Currently 62 with an average wind from the SW of 14 mph. Feels like 60 degrees. Dew Point 55, Humidity 78%, Barometer 29.67 & falling, Visibility 2 mi., Sunrise 7:32 am, Sunset 7:34 pm. Cloudy with an 80% chance of morning rain ending by afternoon. High 71. WSW winds 10 -20 mph.

Some overnight clouds. Low 53. W winds 10 -15 mph.

Quite a wet morning but expecting it to dry out a bit by sometime this afternoon. Perhaps some sunshine tomorrow, which is a good thing to look forward to. Possibly the last of the sunshine for awhile so very much looked forward to actually.

Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019-South West Michigan-Sun & Clouds Mix

Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019-South West Michigan-Sun & Clouds Mix

Currently 61 with an average wind from the WSW of 5 mph. Feels like 61. Dew Point 58, Humidity 91%, Barometer 29.95, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:31 am, Sunset 7:36 pm. Sun and clouds mix today. High 74. SW winds 10 -20mph.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy with the possibility of a stray shower or thunderstorm. Low 62. SSW winds 10 -15 mph.

Here we go into the usual Fall pattern. A fairly sunny day, followed by rain, next some sun, then rain…Just makes it necessary to plan on doing the outside stuff on the good days and inside activity of the ones not so good outdoors. And each week the average temperature will be dropping a bit until it eventually bottoms out into Winter. I guess the best thing to do is enjoy it all as long as possible – because just speaking for me – once the Winter stuff hits, there’s no more enjoyment until Spring ambles along.

Monday, Sept 23, 2019-South West Michigan-Much Cooler Today

Monday, Sept 23, 2019-South West Michigan-Much Cooler Today

Currently 62 with an average wind from the WNW of 12 mph. Feels like 60 degrees. Dew Point 57, Humidity 81%, Barometer 29.89 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:30 am, Sunset 7:38 pm. Sun and clouds mix today. High around 67. WNW winds 156-25 mph.

Mostly clear tonight, low 54. W winds 10 -15 mph.

What a difference! It feels like long sleeves, light jacket weather today. And peering ahead into the coming week’s forecast, it would appear as if we’ve lost our access to 80 degrees days entirely. I guess it’s time, nearly the end of September, but it’s not a nice thought anyway. I’m never ready to give up on the 80 degree days. Never. But, since I’m not in charge of the weather, I get to take what gets given us. Like today. Much cooler weather. Like it or not.
