An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

So many leaves on the ground due to our recent high winds. Still plenty left, and lots of them still green, but the ground is literally littered with a carpet of color. Wet color, but still…

Had about .60″ of rain from the system that blew past. Today looks to be a dry one, but you never do know. Plenty of clouds floating around up there that might decide to turn ugly. For now it’s an OK morning.

Dew Point 41, Barometer 29.52 & falling, Humidity 76%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:03 am, Sunset 6:38 pm. 70% chance of morning showers to steady afternoon rain. Windy. High 49. Very windy out there this morning. Leaves flying around like it’s their only purpose in life. The green ones, of which there are still plenty, seem to be doing their best to hold their positions on the branches, but any with color are loose and flying. It’s not a pretty day, nor is it going to improve.

Currently 54 with an average wind from the E of 12 mph. Feels like 50 degrees. Dew Point 47, Barometer 29.78 & falling, Humidity 77%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:02 am, Sunset 6:49 pm. 60% chance of overnight rain, t-storms, then partly cloudy after midnight. Low 47. SSW winds 10 -20 mph.

Not a fun day here. It’s only gloomy and damp so far but it does sound as if it’s going to all go downhill from here. Not expecting anything harsh as what hit Dallas last night, thank goodness for that. We can cope with rain and wind long as it’s not tied up into a funnel shape.

Sunday, Oct 20, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds To Sun To Clouds

Currently 55 with an average wind from the NW of 5 mph. Feels like 54 degrees. Dew Point 51, Barometer 29.87 & rising, Humidity 85%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:01 am, Sunset 6:51 pm. Mix of sun and clouds today. High 66. Winds light and variable.

Partly Cloudy increasing during the night. Low 49. E winds 5 – 10 pm.

Wasn’t expecting any overnight rain last night, but I ended up with about a half an inch in my rain gauge. Started the morning with fairly solid cloud cover which gradually thinned out to a partly cloudy sky right now. Sounds as if rain is moving in for Monday and Tuesday. We’ll see. Just yesterday it was only Monday so it’s at the very least interesting to see how the pattern shifts from day to day.

Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019-South West Michigan-Some Clouds, Some Sun

Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019-South West Michigan-Some Clouds, Some Sun

Currently 45 with an average wind from the SSE of 7 mph. Feels like 41 degrees. Dew Point 38, Barometer 29.94 & falling, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:00 am, Sunset 6:53 pm. Some morning clouds with increasing afternoon cloudiness. High 62. SSE winds 10 15 mph.

Partly cloudy to cloudy overnight skies. Low 46. SSE winds 5 -10 mph.

Not a bad morning going on, plenty of bright blue surrounding the clouds. A bit cool but hey…this is October. Cool is the norm. At least for now it would appear that any rain is going to hold off until Monday, so a dry weekend is going to draw out the leaf-peepers in full force.

Friday, Oct. 18, 2019-South West Michigan-Partly Cloudy And Cool

Currently 39 with an average wind from the NNE of 2 mph. Feels like 37 degrees. Dew Point 35, Barometer 30.10 & rising, Humidity 91%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:59 am, Sunset 6:54 pm. Partly cloudy with a high around 55. SSE winds 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low 39. SE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Freezing temperatures for some of our nights already. Fall is upon us for sure. At least we are going to be getting some sunshine to go along with the cool temperatures. Makes it all better.

Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds And Chill

Currently 44 with an average wind from the WNW of 8 mph. Feels like 39 degrees. Dew Point 39, Barometer 29.97 & rising, Humidity 82%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:57 am, Sunset 6:56 pm. Cloudy today. High around 50 possible. NW winds 10 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low of 32. NNW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Oh yes…our nights are now getting seriously chilly and our days aren’t all that warm anymore either. Sure does feel like Fall now. At least I can say we aren’t getting any of the massive winds slamming into the East Coast right now. I guess our chill and our clouds are much easier to cope with…for which I’m so grateful. At least we have power so we can keep warm. How many thousands over that way are now without power? SO many of them…. Boy when the East Coast gets storms – they get STORMS. Probably the only good thing to say about this one is it doesn’t involve snow.

Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019-South West Michigan- Plenty Of Clouds, Windy

Currently 46 with an average wind from the W of 16 mph. Feels like 39 degrees. Dew Point 43, Barometer 29.63, Humidity 89%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 7:56 am, Sunset 6:57 pm. Cloudy and windy today with a slight chance of rain. High 49. NW winds 20 -30 mph.

Partly cloudy with a chance of rain. Low 41. NW winds 15 -25 mph.

Breezy, but not too windy right now. It’s on the way. Should manage to send a lot of our leaves flying off the trees…I hate the thought that soon they’ll just be bare skeletal branches waving around in the wind. The winter wind, which is also on the way. It looks very much like an October morning out there today. Damp, windy, chilly.

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019-South West Michigan-Bright Morning To Possible Rainy Afternoon

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019-South West Michigan-Bright Morning To Possible Rainy Afternoon

Currently 47 with an average wind from the SE of 11 mph. Feels like 42 degrees. Dew Point 37, Barometer 29.96 & falling, Humidity 67%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:55 am, Sunset 6:59 pm. Partly cloudy to a 40% chance of afternoon rain. Thunder possible. High 58. SSE winds 10- 15 mph.

80% chance of evening thunderstorms will become cloudy after midnight. Low 44. WSW winds 10 – 15 mph.

It’s a lovely bright morning with plenty of blue skies overhead. Sounds as if that will change by afternoon and I do see more clouds trying to move in already. So, anything needing doing outside best be done pretty quick before that window closes.

Night temperatures are beginning to be in the need of a heavier comforter on the bed range. Couple days of rainy weather ahead of us and no chance of hoping for warmer temperatures from now on. If we’re lucky enough to hit a 60 degree day from her on out, it will be good. Mostly 50 degree days and 40, maybe some 30 degree nights now.

Sunday, October 13, 2019-South West Michigan-A Gloomy Sunday

Sunday, October 13, 2019-South West Michigan-A Gloomy Sunday

Currently 45 with an average wind from the SW of 13 mph. Feels like 39 degrees. Dew Point 38, Barometer 29.80, Humidity 76%, Visibility 2 mi., Sunrise 7:53 am, Sunset 7:02 pm. 100% chance of rain today. High 47. WSW winds 15 – 25 mph.

40% chance of evening showers, then cloudy overnight. Low 37. W winds 10 – 15 mph.

Had some fairly strong wind gusts during the night but it’s managed to calm down a bit this morning. Rainy, gloomy, chilly. Not an ideal Sunday by any means, especially for those who count on Sunday to be able to get out and do yard work. Not today. It’s a good day to stay in, maybe have the family over and fry some chicken (that’s what I’m going to do), and watch football.
