Woke to the high of the day – 51 – and the temperature has begun it’s downhill slide. We’ve, unfortunately, seen the last of our warm weather. Measured 1.10″ of overnight rain in the gauge this morning.

I put away the Hummingbird feeders this morning. Last one I saw was last Saturday. Made me sad, but I just hope the little feathered creatures travel safe, manage to stay out of inclement weather and find enough to eat along the way. Going to be a long time before I see another one again. :<(

Rather warm today but tomorrow will be totally different. A cold front is taking aim at us and will scoop the warmth on out, leaving behind a chilly day for tomorrow with 20 degrees difference.

I’m so nervous for the people in Florida. Folks who have never seen the severity of the storm that is coming in to the panhandle of Florida who have made the decision to stay put and ride this out. I think they are in for the shock of their lives – and perhaps it will mean their lives. Period. Going to be a bad time down there starting this afternoon.

Feels like a warm, humid August morning…what? It’s October? Could have fooled me. This isn’t going to hang around, but it certainly is unusual for now. Going to drop 20 -30 degrees by the end of the week so the thing to do is to enjoy this respite from Autumn while it lasts.

Autumn is usually a time of strange weather and this time around is holding true to form. Warm, even hot, one day, dropping 20 -25 degrees the next. Right now we’re heading into a couple of overly-warm days and then around Thursday, down 30 degrees. No time to shift clothes in the closet yet because from day to day you don’t know if you’re going to need warm clothes or something cooler. A bit of a roller coaster ride. At any rate, today we have fog, and climbing temperatures, a bit of rain likely. After the gloomy, chilly weekend, today doesn’t sound all that bad.

Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 South West Michigan – Chilly Autumn Sunday

Colder now than when I got up this morning. It’s a chilly, damp day out there and not much fun.

I haven’t seen a Hummingbird yet this morning. I’m wondering if the little bundles of feathers have started their long, arduous journey. If they have, I wish the a safe trip with the hope of seeing them back here next Spring.

Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 South West Michigan – Rainy Autumn Saturday

Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 South West Michigan – Rainy Autumn Saturday

Currently 63 with a S wind of 7 mph. Feels like 63 degrees. Dew Point 62, Humidity 99%, Barometer 29.93, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 7:45 am, Sunset 7:14 pm. 50% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. High near 70. WNW winds 5 -10 mph.

80% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low 53. NE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Been raining off and on all morning and I measured .66″ of rain in the gauge this morning.  The bees, swarming over the Hummingbird feeder don’t seem to care whether it’s raining or not. I care that they’re there, however, because this is the time the Hummers need to be feeding heavy – they’re set to fly off any day now. And so far, the bees aren’t allowing the little Hummingbirds in to feed. They’ve been trying, but just can’t get through those rotten bees. And I know. I know. The bees need the food too. But I don’t put that feeder out for them, I do so for the Hummingbirds. Drat!

Plenty of overnight wind, blew away the warm temperatures we enjoyed yesterday. It’s back to a more fall-like feel today. Should be a pretty, crisp afternoon. And I guess we’ll best all be out there enjoying it ’cause it appears we have rain in our forecast for the next 6 days running. Swell…

Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018 South West Michigan – Good Chance Of Rain Today/Tonight

Currently 62 with a SSE wind of 2 mph. Feels like 62. Dew Point 60, Humidity 93%, Barometer 29.92 & falling, Sunrise 7:41 am, Sunset 7:20 pm. Cloudy with a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High near 80. S winds 10 -20 mph.

90% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low around 50. S winds 15 – 25 mph becoming W during the night.

Much warmer and more humid today all of which will be pushed past us with the rain coming in. Our temperatures the rest of the week won’t be anywhere near today’s hot, humid condition.

Keeping a close eye on the Hummingbirds right about now. It won’t be long before they begin their long, arduous journey south and I always feel anxious and worry about the little things on their miles and miles of flight. They’re so tiny and the way is so long. So far, they’re still with me, but any day now…

Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018 South West Michigan – Little Warm Up

Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018 South West Michigan – Little Warm Up

Currently 54 with an average wind from the NNE of 7 mph. Feels like 52. Dew Point 54, Humidity 100%, Barometer 30.03 & rising, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 7:40 am, Sunset 7:21 pm. Cloudy today with a high of 62. N wind 5 – 10 mph.

Warmer today than it was yesterday and I hear we could hit 80 – or close to it – on Wednesday. Not quite that warm the rest of the week, but not as chilly as it’s been of late. 50s, 60s, an occasional 70 ? We’ll take it. Did get .87″ of rain in the gauge overnight. The beginning of the cold Autumn rains – lots more to come before it turns into snow.
