Friday, July 21, 2017 Southwest Michigan – Hot And Humid For Us Today

Friday, July 21, 2017 Southwest Michigan – Hot And Humid For Us Today

Temperature 70 degrees with a weak NNE wind of 3 mph making not one iota of difference, so it feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 68, Humidity 96%, Barometer 29.99 & rising, Visibility 8 mi. A mix of sun and clouds with a high of 92. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

100% chance of overnight thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe. Low 71. S winds 5 – 10 mph.

A good day to be seeking out nice cool places to hide in. The picture is of a scene from a recent riverboat trip and it looks like a fine place in which to do just that.  I won’t be there, of course. I’ll be out tending to errands that must be done today – in the heat. Alas and alack. Nothing to do about it but be glad it isn’t icy and snowy and bitter cold.  And I can most certainly do that. I’d rather have this any day. Good thing, ’cause here it comes :>)

Thursday, July 20 Southwest Michigan – Rain Mainly Swept South Of Us

Thursday, July 20 Southwest Michigan – Rain Mainly Swept South Of Us

This is summer to me. Roadsides edged with my favorite summer blooms.

Currently 70 degrees with a West wind of 7 mph only skirting around the edge, so 70 is exactly how it feels. Dew Point 67, Humidity 91%, Barometer 29.99, Visibility 10 mi. Cloudy morning with the chance of rain to a partly cloudy afternoon. High in the upper 80s. W winds 10 – 15 mph.

A few passing clouds overnight, low 63. Light winds.

Once again the massive precipitation ran off and left us behind. We could have used a little more rain. I only measured .02 in the gauge this morning. Not enough to completely darken the parking lot. Looking at the radar last night, there was a huge, enormous blob of green and yellow and orange and….well, plenty of moisture in the air, all looking as if we were going to be included in the fun. Not to be. The rain mainly stayed in Spain….no, no…that’s a musical….The rain mostly clung to the edges of the big area of high heat crawling across the middle of the country and so the leading edge of it is to the south of us. As long as the rain associates with that heat, I think we’re all happy it’s avoiding us. We are going to have a hot couple of days but nothing like they’re dealing with to the south of us.

Wednesday, July 19 Southwest Michigan – Heat Ramping Up Here

Wednesday, July 19 Southwest Michigan – Heat Ramping Up Here

Currently 72 with a W wind of 3 mph totally ignoring the playing field, so it’s feeling like 72. Dew Point 65, Humidity 79%, Barometer 30.04 & rising, Visibility 10 mi. A mix of sun and clouds with the possibility of a stray shower or thunderstorm showing up this afternoon. High 87. Light and variable winds.

Clear this evening becoming cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight showers or thunderstorms. Low 67. Light and variable winds.

Not feeling bad this morning but it’s going to warm up nicely by later today. Sounds as if we could see close to 90 by Sunday. We’ll see how it goes. The oppressive heat in the states to the south of us could jolly well stay to the south. Even for me, those numbers they’re tossing around are way too high. Actual temperatures in the upper 90s and into the 100 range – nope. Don’t want any part of that.

Tuesday, July 18 Southwest Michigan – A Mostly Sunny Day For Us

Tuesday, July 18 Southwest Michigan – A Mostly Sunny Day For Us

Currently 70 with a SSW wind of 4 mph ignoring that number so it feels exactly like the 70 it is. Dew Point 63, Humidity 90%, Barometer 30.06 & rising, Visibility 9 mi. Plenty of sunshine today with a high near 86. WSW wind 5 – 10 mph.

A few passing clouds, low 65. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Going to be hot for awhile here but I see they’ve tossed in the chance of rain about every day for the next 5 or so. Swell. That means the humidity is going to go through the roof again. That’s a bummer. I love the heat. I really enjoy the rain. But put them together and not so much. Nothing to do about it except be grateful we aren’t going to be dealing with the extremely high temperatures so many other states have going for them this summer. And I am. Grateful.

Monday, July 17 Southwest Michigan – Nice Mix Of Sun & Clouds

Monday, July 17 Southwest Michigan – Nice Mix Of Sun & Clouds

Currently 65 degrees with an E wind of 8 mph tip toeing around but not making any difference, so it feels like 65 degrees. Dew Point 59, Humidity 82 %, Barometer 30.05 & rising. Sun and clouds mix today with a high of 79. ESE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Clear overnight skies, low 58. Light and variable winds.

Not a bad start to the week. Comfortable, and as long as we can see some blue sky, fine and dandy. In fact, the last really comfortable day for awhile as the heat is due to ramp up starting tomorrow. Not anything like what’s sweeping along to the South of us on toward the East coast with temperatures in the 90s and some verging on 100s. That’s brutal. No, we should stay nicely in the 80s and we can all handle that.

Saw a long range forecast for temperatures through November and they seem – except for the extreme NW – to be above normal for the duration. Fine with me but for those who long for winter, and an early onslaught of winter at that, probably not such good news.

Sunday, July 16 Southwest Michigan – The Name Of The Game Is Clouds For Us Today

Sunday, July 16 Southwest Michigan – The Name Of The Game Is Clouds For Us Today

Currently 67 with a NW wind of 5 mph making nary a difference so it feels like 67 degrees. Dew Point 66, Humidity 95%, Barometer 29.95 & rising, Visibility 9 mi. Cloudy most of the day but becoming partly cloudy at some point in the afternoon. High near 80. N wind 5 – 10 mph.

A few clouds tonight with a low of 57. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Not a particularly exciting morning out there. Rather still and – oh yes – cloudy. I think, weatherwise, it’s going to be a slightly boring day. So, it’s up to us humans to put a little excitement into it. Not sure I have all that much energy to make it a very big deal, but I’ll give it a go. Off to breakfast at my favorite little place this morning. That’s a good start.

Saturday, July 15 Southwest Michigan – Some Clouds Some Sun Today

Saturday, July 15 Southwest Michigan – Some Clouds Some Sun Today

Currently 62 degrees with a W wind of 5 mph flitting around the number but not changing it, so it feels just like the 62 degrees it is. Dew Point 61, Humidity 97%, Barometer 30.11 & rising, Visibility 9 mi. Morning clouds will give way to a generally clear sky this afternoon. High 79. WSW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Mostly clear evening skies will cloud up and give us an 80% chance of overnight thunderstorms. Low in the mid 60sd. SW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Sounds like we could have a lively night with some t-storms moving in. Would be nice if they cleared out for a decent Sunday. I guess that will be a wait and see situation.  For today, should be a dandy day to be out and about doing pretty much anything a Saturday calls for.

Friday, July 14 Southwest Michigan – Cloudy Less Humid Than Yesterday

Friday, July 14 Southwest Michigan – Cloudy Less Humid Than Yesterday

Currently 66 degrees with a WNW wind of 6 mph ignoring that so it still feels like 66. Dew Point 61, Humidity 85%, Barometer 30.36 & rising, Visibility 10 mi. Mostly cloudy morning, partly cloudy afternoon. High 74 with a NW wind 10 – 15 mph.

Mostly cloudy early becoming clear overnight. Low 57. NNW wind 10 – 15 mph.

Yesterday was sheer gruesome. The humidity was so bad it felt as if you could hardly breath. The temperature never got real high, but that humidity…. So today, even though it’s still high, feels like a total different animal. Thank God.

The rabbits have graciously left me one stalk of Queen Ann’s Lace and one Blue Chicory. Good enough, I say. They’ve had fun and I still get a little color out in my tiny backyard.

Thursday, July 13 Southwest Michigan – Warm & Humid

Thursday, July 13 Southwest Michigan – Warm & Humid

Currently 74 with a SW wind of 9 mph ignoring that number, so it feels just like the 74 it is. Dew Point 73, Humidity 95%, Barometer 29.88 & rising, Visibility 8 mi. Mostly cloudy today with a stray shower or thunderstorm possible. High 82. W winds 10- 15 mph.

A few clouds with a low of 62 tonight. WNW wind 10 – 15 mph.

Got almost an inch of rain yesterday but the rough stuff stays far away from my area. In fact, it was a total fizzle. We really needed more rain than we got. Oh, somewhere the thunder rumbled, somewhere the lightening blazed, and somewhere  rain fell in buckets, but my back yard was hardly phased. Alas, there is little rain in Rockford. Rockford just struck out.  (Yeah, very loosely based :>)

Anyway, today it feels muggy and sticky and not particularly nice. Feels like it’s going to rain, whether it does or not.

Wednesday, July 12 Southwest Michigan – Some Strong Storms Expected

Wednesday, July 12 Southwest Michigan – Some Strong Storms Expected

Currently 77 with a SSW wind of 1mph ignoring that number so it feels exactly like 77 degrees. Dew Point 67, Humidity 71.4%, Barometer 29.9, Visibility 10 mi. There is already an Areal Flood Watch in effect in advance of several rounds of thunderstorms due today. Rainfall rates will top up to 2″ an hour in the strongest storms. Local storm totals could exceed 5″ of rainfall.  So – Along with a high of 84 and SW winds 10 – 20 mph,  we are expecting showers with thunderstorms today. Some storms will be severe and could produce gusty winds with frequent lightening.

90% chance of about the same for tonight, with a low in the upper 60s. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Sounds like a lively day coming up and I think my first course of action will be to get out in my tiny backyard and batten the hatches best I can. Not much back there to batten, but what is should be. Many times these things miss us, but this time around I think we could be in the bull’s eye. Or somewhere there abouts. Wise to be prepared just in case, I reckon.
